Had a fantastic couple of days at the Sound Station in Uphall (Sound Station site ) working with Lyns and owner Calais Brown, who produced, helped with arrangements and played some bass. We rebuilt Nicole from the bottom up (ooh-er, missus) into a quite muscular R&B groove with live drums, then built on some tracks I’d already done for Roadblock, ghostly and chain-rattling. It was interesting to see how repetition changes the way you feel and understand a song – I must have sung Nicole thirty or more times start to finish and the nuances of how I had always sung it gave way to new rhythms and tones of voice. Same with the other song. The premises were light, clean and spacious and Calais himself a warm and friendly host as well as a sympathetic, creative and efficient producer. Highly recommended.
