Sunday night, an enjoyable night with my old friend the G, giving his website a facelift. We met at a Buddhist group in the early 90’s, shortly after which I saw this quiet, controlled character perform manic Hendrix-type guitar in velvet flares with his band Pure Land. Since then he left his clerical job in an insurance company, did a degree in music and now makes an honourable living teaching various aspects of music to individuals and groups and running community groups and meditation classes. It’s always a pleasure to work with him as he has a very clear idea of what he wants.
I was looking forward to a relaxing day off on Monday but a phone call from Plague came early saying he’d had an accident in his car on his way to work. He was shaken but not hurt, but it took a couple of hours to get all the insurance and repair stuff sorted out. Despite the insurance this will be costly as there’s a massive excess on policies with young male drivers. But that’s metal and money – nobody was injured and that’s what matters.
In the evening, he gave me the second in an occasional series of lessons on FL Studio, in which he’s an expert. I’m astonished at how much he knows.
