Uneventful performance at Haymarket BeanScene last night, where we played around a little with the songs and got a little polite applause and scant attention. ‘You have to remember this isn’t a gig’ the BeanScene music organiser had said, ‘People are just out for a coffee and a chat with their friends and they might be interested in what you’re doing but they might not.’ As is normal at the BeanScenes the staff were pleasant, helpful and generous with food and drink.
The curse of being a parent – you can’t help seeing (or thinking you see) further and trying to warn of the consequences of a current course of action, and they can’t help thinking your’re stupid and interfering. We’re both locked into well-set patterns of thought and behaviour.
