At OOTB last night, on a whim, I played Submarine Girl. All day it’s been nagging at me and tonight I thought: OK now that the Big Project is learning to walk on its own, what do I like doing best in the world? Playing live and recording. Last night I played live. So tonight … in the spirit of ‘three takes is enough for anyone’ I worked up a simple backing track for Submarine Girl – basic drum pattern, two rhythm guitars, one electric riff-grinder, bass, a short burst of lead and, at the end, a demented approximation of a drunken brass band, courtesy of Cynthia Roland on trumpet, trombone, alto and baritone sax. You may never hear it, and whatever you imagine probably sounds better than the real thing, but tonight it was fun!
