From David Byrne’s little pseudo-religious tract The New Sins:
HELL – WHO IS THERE? DOES IT EXIST AND WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
… Here we can see, on the upper levels, graphic designers, website managers and humanitarian relief workers. Their crime? Hubris. Their punishment? Equality. Everyone looks cool, fashionable and absolutely identical – well-dressed, handsome and completely boring. Everything is perfect and unbearable.
They sit at table eating gourmet food piled in elaborate towers but taste nothing. They watch films that entertain and seduce, but which have no content whatsoever. They click through websites that promise to be useful and informative – but which actually contain mountains of inscrutable and meaningless data, with an occasional celebrity’s name thrown in to keep one interested.
In short, they are condemned to endlessly deal with their own handiwork.
