Yes, I know, another version! But this one, from last week’s food bank benefit gig at The Village, is a good one!
I don’t know if you’ve seen the recent Rolling Thunder film. I think it’s only on Netflix. Even as a Dylan fan it was a revelation to me. I’ve never seen such intensity in Dylan’s performances, particularly the songs from Desire such as Isis and Hurricane (where the anger that had prompted him to write it – pretty recently I imagine – bursts like a storm). There’s also a hilarious mugging session in Knocking On Heaven’s Door with Roger McGuinn. And Joni Mitchell effortlessly impressing a respectful Dylan exactly as he outdid Donovan in his earlier film Don’t Look Back.
cool! thanks norman. i haven’t watched the netflix special yet. i’m looking forward to it. about a year after the rolling thunder tour, we (jake & the family jewels) opened for bobby neuwirth at the other end on bleeder street. in the audience was quite the cast of characters. a wonderful time was had by all. cheers
