One of the tracks I’m working on for the new album All the Time in Heaven is a ballad called Mathilde. This is a co-write with Sebastien Ayreault, a French novelist and songwriter living in Atlanta, Georgia. (More about Sebastien)
I sent him a backing track and also a copy of the song I’d written to the same track; he responded with a completely new melody and French lyric. It took only a few hearings for me to forget my original version, which sounded plodding in comparison. We went through a few versions and settled on us singing a verse each, me singing the chorus and Sebastien the middle eight.
