Time to pass in the BA lounge before my flight home. Work-wise, a successful trip, also socially, enjoying time with old friend Adrian. London scruffy, modern, squalid and vibrant all at once. I enjoyed it this time.
Went with Adrian to an excellent film A Very Long Engagement, a French film by the director of Amelie, which surprisingly combines powerful and shocking images of life in the trenches of World War 1 with a light, magical and often humourous detective story as the fiance of a young man seemingly executed for self-mutilation (to escape the trenches) tries to uncover the truth about what happened to him. It’s a long time since I’ve seen anything that makes you feel so strongly the horror – the sheer mass horror – of the trenches. At the same time the other story is replete with visual beauty and charm.
Adrian also listened to my last batch of recordings and offered good criticism. Now that the OOTB site is done I can get back to recording and editing this stuff.
I drink too much coffee when I’m travelling but I’m off for more now.
