Street legal

Went to the Sherriff Court today for jury service. A beautifully restored building on Chambers St, very clean and moden inside.  It tickled me to see the monitors on the wall announcing which courts were in service displayed a live view of … a blackboard! About forty or more of us sat in the court, as our names were checked. Then the judge told us that because prosecution witnesses hadn’t turned up the trial couldn’t be heard and we could all go home. But we’ve to go back on Wednesday, or at least phone a freephone number on Tuesday evening to see if we are required.

So now I have to fly to Birmingham tomorrow for a meeting I’d hoped the jury service would excuse me from.  Oh well …
