Turn is a BAND album!
My previous albums have all had a singer- songwriter basis - starting from an acoustic song and overdubbing a few instruments to enhance it.
In Turn the band - James, Fi and Suzy - have been integral to the arrangements. I'd come with a song and say 'what do we do with this?' and take it from there. In the studio we recorded the basic - guitars bass and drums - live, and it has has that live energy!
This video shows the transition of the title song from solo acoustic to band version.

By the sound of it, they seem to have had a blast recording it. Lamont appears to revel in the band environment and colleagues James Whyte, Suzy Cargill and Fiona Thom are the driving force in an eclectic set of songs including the jaunty Nothing Through The Rain and the moody The Right Thing.~

It's a kicking album. California Joyride is a driving instrumental reminiscent of 60s tracks by the Tornadoes or the Shadows. A Careless Blow is gorgeously crafted but subtly cruel. Enter bitterness and loss of respect with the creepily dramatic What Use Is That?
Turn is timeless, moving and magical.

Stylistically the album veers between indie guitar (Turn, Living Water, What Use Is That?) 60s pop and hint of soul (You Just Want the Thrill, She Wants Out, Call Back Fall Back), surf-rock instrumental (California Joyride), a hint of dance in Nothing Through the Rain and even a dark prog-ish The Right Thing. Pre-Indie Kinks-y if you will. A slight turn musically, but classy song- writing.
