This Friday at the Dalriada (Portobello Esplanade) sees me and Ms Fi treading the boards of The Room With a View. Expect a range of Lamontations, covers, acoustickery and electrogrinding, plus a superb set of songs from The Fi. From 9-12, free.
On Sunday afternoon there’s a showcase at the GRV featuring winners and (in my case) breathless runners-up in the Acoustic Idols poll: there’s Ben Young – articulate, loud and frighteningly good on the old fingerpicking – one of Edinburgh’s finest. There’s Lindsay Sugden and the Storm – lush harmonies and crystal chords to sparkle your day. And I’ll be exploring songs from the Wolf, through Romantic Fiction, to Roadblock, with the help of Nelson, Fi and Mary Robbs on violin. 2-5 at the GRV, free.
On Tuesday lunchtime the Wright Brothers climb into their ramshackle engines and taxi to the Edinburgh Book Festival Spiegeltent in Charlotte Square, for a two-hour acoustic set. We did this one last year, in fact it was our first gig, and it’s a great place to play or hear music. 1 – 3 on Tuesday. Just call in sick to work.
I’ve now got final versions of most of the Roadblock songs, and a late contender has elbowed its way back from the cutting room floor onto the CD – Anywhere But Here, with new vocals and a new mix.
